Naturally Victoria - Cloth
Diapering.
07.03.18
Hello friends! As I
am typing this out, my little baby bump has turned 17 weeks today! It is so
crazy that this pregnancy is flying by so quickly! I cannot wait to find out
the gender of little Baby Vue in the next three weeks and begin nesting and
prepping for this little one (though truthfully, I've already began the nesting
process but have not officially purchased anything... yet...). We are so
excited to love on and bless our little beloved!
As Chu and I are
planning for our baby to be, there are a lot of things that we have considered
doing with our children. One being,
cloth diapering. Now, I know, this may be a new concept for many of
y'all, but it is something that I have been interested in and passionate about
for YEARS and a method that I would like to begin with my children. There
are many reasons as to why we chose this method of diapering:
1. Environmentally safe!
Reusable and
eco-friendly.
2. Comfort
Gentler on the skin, non-toxic and customizable.
3. Pricing
Disposable diapers
can range from $2,000-$3,000 in just two years for one baby.
Cloth diapering
ranges anywhere from $300-$1,000 (depending on the amount, style, and brand selected)
until your baby is potty-trained AND can be used again for multiple children!
(WHAT A WIN!)
My plan for cloth diapering and brands that I
will be using:
·
Newborn Stage: Birth-2 Months
-
I plan to use Thirsties Newborn All-in-One cloth
diapers. These are essentially for
babies weighing 5-15lbs! I love the
print of these diapers and the features this brand offers for the diaper. I plan to purchase 5 of these ($77.50) to
begin with.
-
I also plan to implement cloth diaper covers and newborn
pre-fold inserts. For my newborn diaper
cover, I am going with the Sigazor brand.
And will be using the OsoCozy Unbleached Organic Indian Cotton pre-folds. I plan to purchase 2-4 covers ($7.60 each),
and 6 newborn pre-folds ($11.50).
-
As of now, I plan to rotate between the 5 newborn
all-in-one diapers and the covers with pre-folds with a wash routine of every
other day, keeping in mind that I plan to change baby at least every 2 hours.
*Knowing that my baby may be
larger than 5lbs, I may go ahead and transition them over to the next
stage of diapering once they hit 8-10lbs.
·
Baby-Toddler Stage: 8lbs – 2 years
-
During this stage, I am still deciding on a few
different options because I want to make sure that the system we select is best
fitting for our baby for the years to come.
As of now, I plan to go with a combination of BumGenius 5.0 Pocket diapers and the Flip Diaper Covers with large pre-folds.
-
During the day, or when I am with baby the most, I
plan to use the BumGenius Flip Diaper option.
However, when traveling, sleeping, or having others take care of baby, I
plan to use the BumGenius 5.0 option because it is more like a regular
disposable diaper.
-
Pricing: I plan to purchase the 12pk BumGenius 5.0
(~$200), and the 6pk for the Flip Diaper Covers (~90) with a 12pk large
pre-fold inserts (~$25).
-
Wash Routine: I plan to interchange these diapers
with a wash routine of every other day.
Other Expenses to Consider:
·
Diaper Pail
·
2 reusable large wet bags
·
2 reusable small carry-on wet bags
·
Laundry detergent for washing
I am so excited to go ahead and purchase everything for baby…
But, I know that I need to be a little more patient in waiting! Just wanted to share with y’all my thoughts,
planning process and a little explanation as to why we have decided to go with
cloth diapering.
I know there will be many more updates on cloth diapering in
the near future as we learn and go through the process and experience!
